The Master’s Thesis is devoted to a comprehensive study of the onymia of the Andrukhovych’s novel «Recreations» with the establishment of the pretextual and contextual semantics, function and intertextual potential of poetonyms. The objects of the research are single proper names, onym groups and anonymous nominations of the novel (more than 150 nominative units). The work reveals the components of the nuclear and peripheral zones of onym space in the novel “Recreations”; the creative base (appellatives and protoonyms) and semantic load of poetonyms (anthroponyms, toponyms, chrononyms) and anonymous nominations are clarified. The creation of dominant character names and key toponyms has been proven, taking into account the specifics of the postmodern text (“reshaping” events and images, humorous or sarcastic rethinking of elements of the historical and cultural context, mixing time and space, etc.).
Comprehensive analysis of onym units proves the significancy of proper names of historical and cultural origin, filling “real”, secondary and “doubly secondary” names with new meanings that determine the transformation of other texts and demonstrate postmodern play. The influence of onyms of different categories and varying degrees of explication (names with transparent semantics, names-allusions) on the imagery of a literary text has been established, the role of the opposition sacred – sinful on the formation of the ideological and semantic concept of the novel has been proven.
