Abstract

The master’s thesis is devoted to a holistic analysis of the onymy of J. Fowles’ novel “The Collector” as a postmodern work. The object of the study was proper names (anthroponyms, toponyms, ergonyms) and naming paradigms for the main characters (more than 175 nominative units).
The work identifies the constituent elements of the nuclear, near-nuclear and peripheral zones of the onymic space of the novel “The Collector”; the semantic load of fictitious and borrowed onymic units has been established, the role of historical and cultural onyms in the creation of a postmodern text has been determined. Through the prism of poetonyms, typical and specific features of a postmodern work aimed at playing on and rethinking other people’s texts are identified.
